Google Chrome Extensions

I’ve posted many times about internet browsers and have mentioned several times that Google Chrome is my preferred browser.

One of the thing I like about many of today’s internet browsers is the ability to add plugins or extensions to “enhance” the browser to meet your needs.

I thought today’s post would be about some of the “enhancements” that I’ve found useful. Many of these plugins are available for firefox as well and this list is in no certain order.

Chrome SEO - The Google Chrome SEO Extension. All the SEO Stats and Tools you need to make daily SEO easier. The MOST popular Chrome SEO Plugin!

Clip To Evernote - Use the Evernote extension to save things you see on the web into your Evernote account. It even lets you search through your notes.

CSS Scan - Offers a quick overview of CSS properties to the element the mouse cursor is hovering.

Color Picker - Eye Dropper is open source extension which allows you to pick colors from web pages, color picker and your personal color history.

Gestures for Chrome - Chrome Mouse Gestures (this one allows me to right click and swipe in a direction to go back and forth in browser history.

LastPass - LastPass is a free password manager and form filler. LastPass is also available for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari.

Lorem Ipsum Generator – Creates Greek text for place holder copy during designing.

Measure It - Draw out a ruler that will help you get the pixel width and height of any elements on a webpage.

Scraper - Scraper is a Google Chrome extension for getting data out of web pages and into spreadsheets.

Screen Capture - Capture visible content of a tab, a region of a web page, or the whole page as a PNG image. Support horizontal and vertical scroll when capturing whole page, with an all new autosave capability.

Site Information Tool - Shows information about the current page (PageRank, Alexa rank, IP info, server response headers, whois and other SEO parameters).

Window Resizer - Resize browser window to emulate various screen resolutions.

Xmarks - Backup and sync your bookmarks, passwords and open tabs across computers and browsers. Xmarks is also available for Firefox, Safari and IE.

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for this. I haven’t jumped over to Chrome as my full time browser yet. I’m still on Firefox. Your list of add-ons helps me realize that maybe it’s time to jump over. Why do you prefer chrome over FF?

    I find that it’s faster and that every tab is it’s own instance in memory. Where in firefox each new tab adds to the total memory usage for the browser.

    I also think that it makes better use of screen real estate just my opinions of course.
