Website Title Tags…

I am surprised how many people forget to change their title tag on their website.

For those of you who don’t know the title tag is what determines what is displayed on the bar at the very top of your web browser.

If you are reading this from my blog site you could look up and see “Frank Deardurff’s Web Strategies” that is the title of my blog.

To find what your title tag looks like just view the source of your website. Near the top you will see web page code or HTML that looks like this:

<title>Frank Deardurff’s Web Strategies</title>

Notice the words with the brackets <> around them those are the tags and since they have the words “title” in them, that tells the browsers and search engines to use that string of text as your website title.

You will want to use something there that is descriptive but also uses keywords that your visitors will use to find your website. This will help your search engine listings.

Now here is something funny…

If you visit google and search on “untitled document” you will see that as of this post there are 39,800,000 people who did not title their websites. Something else I found amusing is the number of people that “welcome” you to their site. 832,000,000 people including the white house use welcome to in their title tag, which makes it hard to stand out in a search engine listing with those numbers.

So be very aware of what you use in your title of your website. If you are unsure how to change this ask your webmaster to do this for you.

Until the next post…

All the best and much success in everything you do.
