Who’s Watching Your Blog?

I was recently reading a post at TechCrunch about how one browser has over taken another one as the most popular browser for views on their site.

This got me wondering when was the last time I actually checked my stats for my blog?

I get so busy with product creation, support, and normal day to day work that I often forget to check the stats, but it is critical that we do this and here’s why.

First if one browser is becoming more prevalent over the others we need to make sure we’re up to date  and that our site is fully functional in that browser. [Note: I talk about this in my book 50 Biggest Website Mistakes]. In MG Siegler’s post on TechCrunch he talks about the Safari browser gaining ground and at first I’m like hmm I wonder why and then it quickly made sense, iPhone, iPad, iTouch all use Safari and they’re only growing in popularity.

This of course made me want to check the stats for MY blog, here’s my results.

As you can see from my illustration I’ve taken from my Google Analytics account you can see my results were much different than those found by Siegler’s.

It appears that most of the visitors to my site are still using Internet Explorer (IE). This could mean many things, such as most of the visitors to my site are just getting started using the internet, prefer the default browser on their PC,  or not yet discovered the differences between the browsers.

This also tells me that not many visitors are visiting my site from mobile devices. Google now shows this as a stat as well in the same month period only 11 visitors were using mobile devices.

This lets me know I don’t need to rush and make major changes to my blog to adjust for mobile devices. (I have to checked several for appearance though.)

Now if you’re unsure how to do this you can use the stats that comes with your hosting (most use Awstats) or ideally you can set up a Google Analytics account and go that route. (If your unsure on how to do either leave me a comment or send me an email, chances are you’re not alone and I’ll make a post on how to do this.)

What ever you do be sure to check your stats from time to time there is a wealth of information you can find there.

I’ve been using Chrome for several weeks and generally like it. I like FireFox but I have so many add-ins, it has slowed up. Chrome loads fast, I suppose because it is spare. This last week I’ve been using Comodo Dragon which is built with chrome code. It is supposed to be a more secure browser, but it brings up a warning on some Infusion sites as being unsafe.
