why do we stress

Why Do We Stress So Much?

We let so many little things get to us any more. I see it every day and it makes me wonder, Why DO we stress so much?

I think we’ve become a society of worry warts. We can’t say or do this or that because it “might” offend someone. As business owners we second guess ourselves to the point of crippling our productivity.

Think about the different things you do in your business. Whether it be changing parts of your website, marketing strategy or even writing an email or blog post. We stress about colors, shapes, photos even down to grammar, spelling and the right words to use so that we make the right impact without turning customers or potential customers away.

Yes, it is very important to make sure we have it right, but don’t allow yourself to get so worked up that it creates work blockages.

In a recent article by the American Institute of Stress (AIS) about the main causes of stress “Dealing With People” ranked 2nd only to Workload.

  1. Workload – 46%
  2. Dealing With People – 28%
  3. Juggling Work/Personal Lives 20%
  4. Lack of Job Security 6%

That’s just for the average worker! I’m certain that for business owners there are other pressures such as business capital, taxes, employees etc.

I think it is important to learn how to cope with stress and find mechanisms that work for you. Sometimes you can save a relationship, partnership or project just by taking a time out when things get heated and take a moment to regroup. It’s not always easy to do that in the pressures of business but it is definitely worth it.

I’ve been receiving a paycheck since the age of 13 and have been online for over 20 years now. I’ve seen a lot of stressful situations over that time and know the key to a successful business and a healthier lifestyle is to get a handle on dealing with stress.

While I don’t have all of the answers I know it is best to seek out those that can help you. In saying that I want to ask you “What Is The Single Biggest Question You Have About Managing Stress In Your Life?”

In an upcoming interview I will have the honor to ask my friend and America’s #1 Stressologist Carol Rickard your most asked questions about stress management. Carol has written over 13 books on how to cope with stress in a wide range of needs. She’s also appeared on the Dr. Oz show talking on the topic of stress.

If you would like for me to ask Carol your question during this interview just visit https://dontaskfrank.com/managing-stress/ name and email is optional on that site. There is information on the following page about how to join us live for the interview.

The most important thing is don’t let stress consume your work or personal life. As a recovering work-a-holic I know too well the impact stress can take on you mentally and physically. If stress is consuming you find out ways to get those resolved.

Great article, Frank. I’m a high school principal in Toronto teaching stress management to teens in my school, and now struggling to take my message online. If you could broadcast the website to teens in the USA, it would be really helpful (since i have no skill at marketing).
