cartbuttons2 18OK a quick web rant today.

In recent searches for some technology upgrades I needed/wanted to make I’ve noticed something a little irritating to me and in my opinion is not a good marketing strategy. (I’d love to hear if you agree.)

First let me explain…

You search the internet for a what you’re looking for only to get to the website find the product you want you look for the price and it says “Click To See Price” or “Special price shown on order page”.

Why make me work for it?

I understand their trying to get me to the order page and they probably figure that my thoughts are “Hey I’m here anyway and the price is pretty good I’ll go ahead and order”. In my case that doesn’t work for me if I have to make multiple clicks to “FIND” out how much I’m not interested. Yeah it MAY be a good price. But time is short and I need to find out; does it do what I want; how much is it; and how quickly can I have it?

Maybe it’s just a trivial thing and a pet peeve of mine but why complicate the sale? In my opinion and tests that I’ve seen it’s best to give them the fewest choices and give them every opportunity to buy.

Come to think of it, the last few things I’ve bought online showed the price before I got to the order form. The others that I did NOT buy had me hunting for the price. I remember saying to myself one of those times, “uh oh, this is going to be expensive…they don’t want me to know how much it costs.” So, I already talked myself out of the sale before I even found the price. I agree. Always display the price….and be proud of it!

I agree completely Frank. It’s almost as if they are ashamed of the price or think it’s too much and they don’t want to scare people away. If I’m interested I’ll click no matter what.
    Thanks for bringing this up!

Hi Frank! Yeah I find that annoying as well. I think it backfires on them. A couple sites I have come across said something along the lines of: “Price to low to advertise! Add to your cart to see price”. I think this might deture some shoppers because they may think that by adding to shopping cart then they will be obligated to buy. So, they just back away from the site and look elsewhere.
