That One Web Guy

I just wanted to make a quick post for people that may have been looking for my site “That One Web Guy”.

ThatOneWebGuy.com site has been one of my oldest sites and that up until recently was the site I would direct people too. I’ll still use the domain for my marketing efforts but if you’ve been reading my blog for very long at all you will know that I’ve been working on simplifying and streamlining my sites and marketing efforts.

I’ll explain more of what I’m doing as it goes a long it’s a lengthy process and I think it will make a big difference for many of the things I’m doing.

For those new to the site or who are just learning about me a brief history of where that one web guy came from. I knew with my last name (Deardurff) being a little difficult to spell and hear phonetically on the phone during teleseminars and webinars I figured I would have a difficult time using that as my domain. Actually my very first domain I purchased was “Deardurff.com” which I still use to this day for my genealogy efforts but there is a wide range of spellings for that name.

So I was trying to determine something to brand my self that would “stand out” be memorable AND easier to spell. Being somewhat the jokester I remembered back to my high school days wanting to have a band (didn’t many of us?) I thought it would be funny to call the band “That One Band” as in who are going to go listen to “That One Band!” (OK, it was funny when Abbott and Costello did “who’s on first”.) So using that thinking I decided that since I was a web guy why not be “That One Web Guy” – who designed your website… That One Web Guy! It stuck and I went with it.

Not only was it great for branding but also good for setting my self as an authority in that area. Something you should consider when working on your branding strategies.

As I said I’m sticking with my marketing and branding as you can tell from this site, but it made sense now that my name (I’m hoping) is more recognizable that I should utilize both and combine them on to one site. This will help me make better use of the information, site structure and better strategies for my products and services as you can see I’ve already added more navigation than I had previously and more will be coming soon.

If you’d like to find out more about me and what I do click here.

Curious on your thoughts about this strategy or if you have questions about the thoughts behind the branding be sure to post them here.

Thanks.
