Video Posts with HTML5

I use quite a bit of video from day to day either on various blog posts or in membership sites for my self or for the clients I work with.

A product I’ve been testing lately seems to be working really well it’s the video player from http://videojs.com/.

What I really like about this plugin is that it is HTML 5 compliant with roll back to Flash for browsers that don’t yet support HTML5.

I know you’re probably asking “Frank, what IS HTML or HTML5 and why do I care.”

LOL, good question!

Borrowing an excerpt from the very good description at VideoJs “HTML is the markup language that makes up every page on the web. The newest version, HTML5, includes specifications for a video tag, that is meant to allow website developers to add a video to a page the same way they would add an image.” I would suggest checking out their site (and player) for more details.

I have found this player works well for stand alone pages too. Although you will have to make some modifications for Firefox4 if you are using MP4 videos. This player will actually let you link various video versions so that it’s most compatible across all platforms including mobile devices.

Of course I use this player with my videos that are hosted at AmazonS3 which works really well for my needs.

I’m actually covering how I implement these strategies and more in my upcoming course Building Membership Sites This webinar series starts live next week and then available afterwards as an online video course as with my other courses.

One thing I forgot to mention… Another reason for the HTML5 Player is the fact that Apple’s mobile devices do not have native support for the flash player. Which means if your site is using a flash only player it can not be viewed in most cases on an iPhone or iPad. With this player you can.
